ITT Interconnect Solutions, a leading global manufacturer and supplier of connectors, interconnects, and cable assemblies, has developed a new high-temperature electric power feedthru system for submersible pumps. ITT ICS’ BIW specifically designed the connector feedthru system for operation with conductor temperatures up to 450°F (230°C). The engagement system between the high temperature feedthru and the mating surface connector includes a new Metal-Lok™ patented keying system, which prevents rotation of the surface connector should it be inadvertently turned or mishandled.
“Such severe operating environments place significant demands on the individual components themselves and stress sealing elements of the system, so we addressed these issues by re-engineering the power feedthru, incorporating an innovative proprietary keying system,” said Keith Teichmann, director of marketing for ITT Interconnect Solutions. “In addition, seals between individual parts of the BIW high temperature feedthru connector are protected by a new sealing system which can withstand extremely high temperatures, preventing the ingress of downhole fluids, while exterior seals to the hanger and top flange have been fitted with high-temperature O-rings and back-up rings.”
ITT Interconnect Solutions’ BIW modified the exterior surface of the connector for improved heat transfer and better cooling properties, and internal insulators are manufactured from high temperature PEEK® materials. The high temperature feedthru connector system is CSA-approved for use in Class I, Division 1 hazardous locations. The connector system is rated to 5,000VAC for up to 140A and features a pressure rating of 3000psig.
